How To Make Your Move As Eco-Friendly As Possible

When you are moving to a new home, you will have a great many steps to take and factors to keep in mind during the moving process. And if you are a person that likes to do things in an environmentally friendly way, you may be looking for ways to complete the moving process in the most eco-friendly way possible. Get to know some of the steps that you can take to make your moving process greener. Then, you can be sure that you are sticking to your environmental values while you are moving.

Don't Waste Food

It is easy for the food in your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer to get overlooked in the moving process. Oftentimes, many perfectly good food items get thrown away because they are not easy to transport in a move, especially a long distance one. As such, you will want to focus on not wasting food if you want your move to be eco-friendly.

Start planning meals to empty out your freezer and refrigerator. Use the pantry items that are already open as much as possible during the packing process. If you are not planning on taking much of your pantry supply with you, consider donating your still-good food items to a local food bank or other charity. This will help reduce your food waste in the moving process.

Reuse Boxes

Rather than go out and buy all-new cardboard boxes, choose to reuse boxes. This can be done by going to local stores and asking for a load of their boxes. You can also look on sites like Craigslist or other local "for sale" sites online to seek out people selling or giving away their old moving boxes.

Reusing boxes reduces the environmental impact you will have during your move. Also, if you get packages in the mail, you can reuse those boxes for moving purposes as well.

Work with a Moving Company

While you might not think it, working with a moving company can reduce your environmental impact during your move. If you allow them to help you pack, you will likely use less packing material (and more efficient packing materials) to get through the move. This will help with the eco-friendliness of your move.

A moving company can also advise you on the right size of moving van or truck to use in the move. That way, you do not accidentally get a truck that is over-sized and end up using more fuel than would otherwise be necessary.

Knowing these ways to make your move more eco-friendly, you can be sure your move is as green as possible.
